Medical Students Attend Radiology Symposium

Medical students attended a one day symposium held by the Division of Interventional Radiology (IR) in the Skills Acquisition and Innovation Laboratory (SAIL) on November 23, 2019.

Led by IR faculty members, medical students rotated among five different hands-on stations. These stations included ultrasound-guided microwave ablation, CT-guided cryoablation, IVC filter deployment and retrieval, angiographic simulators, and venous and arterial interventions (i.e. radial access, coiling and stenting).

At each station, students were given a case then discussed relevant history, indications for treatment, imaging findings, pre- and post-procedural management, and also performed the procedure in the simulated environment.

Stations were also attended by industry representatives from Penumbra and Terumo, Mentice, Argon, and Neuwave.

The event was organized by Dr. Nicole Lamparello, assistant professor of clinical radiology, and medical student Julie Kim. The faculty instructors were Dr. Nicole Lamparello, Dr. William Browne, Dr. Andrew Kesselman, Dr. Resmi Charalel, Dr. Kim Scherer, and Dr. Pratik Shulka.
