More than two dozen fourth-year medical students participated in the 6th Annual Surgery Bootcamp Course, held April 29-May 10.
Department of Surgery faculty Dr. Demetri Merianos and Dr. Mayur Narayan instructed this event utilizing the Skills Acquisition & Innovation Lab (SAIL) for the participants to practice their knot tying, suturing, laparoscopic skills, chest tubes, and central lines. These students have matched in residencies in fields such as general surgery, plastic surgery, anesthesia, OBGYN, orthopedics, ENT and neurosurgery.
From 2014-2017, this course was an elective for fourth-year medical students, but since 2018, it has become part of Weill Cornell Medicine’s Transition to Residency course, which is a required course for all fourth-year medical students.
The course is regularly rated by students as one of the highest yield courses in terms of preparation for residency.
